If you ever thought that mosquitoes bite you more than anyone else, you may be right! Blood type, metabolism, exercise, shirt color and even drinking beer can make individuals especially delicious to mosquitoes. Almost 20% of the population has traits that make them more attractive to mosquitoes.
Mosquitoes are after our blood and they have a preference for type! A study found that mosquitoes would land on people with Type O blood nearly twice as often as those with Type A. People who had Type B blood fell in the middle of the spectrum. Yikes! Body temperature also plays a factor because mosquitoes like their blood warm! Higher body temperatures can lead to more mosquito bites.
Other factors that contributed to how often a mosquito would land on someone include the amount of Carbon Dioxide they are emitting, bacteria on their skin, beer, clothing colors, and even being pregnant! In several different studies, pregnant women have been found to attract roughly twice as many mosquito bites as others, likely a result of the fact the unfortunate confluence of two factors: They exhale about 21 percent more carbon dioxide and are on average about 1.26 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than others.
So if mosquitoes are a problem you should avoid breathing heavily, drinking beer, and do not wear black, dark blue, or red!
